Mercedes-Benz B-Class Set For July 19 Launch
Mercedes-Benz has started the countdown for the launch of what is going to be its cheapest model in India - the B-Class. Mercedes Benz had earlier announced that it would be launching the B-Class premium car in 2012 and the German carmaker's Indian website now has a count down of the number of days left for the new car's launch.
The B-Class's launch is a very important event for Mercedes-Benz as it has been relegated to third position in the list of India's best selling premium carmakers. The B-Class is possibly the best car now to counter Audi and BMW who have launched cars that are cheaper than Mercedes-Benz's entry level model the C-Class.

The Mercedes B-Class's launch will mark the arrival of the first hatchback from the German premium carmaker. The B-Class to be launched in India is an updated version that was first displayed at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Mercedes B-Class is slightly larger than a regular premium hatchback and offers space and comfort along with the promise of luxury from Mercedes-Benz.
Mercedes Benz has stated that it will be launching the B-Class with five petrol engines and four diesel engines. Mercedes is also planning to make a Hydrogen fuel cell powered variant and an electric variant. It is yet unclear how many of these will make it to India. We have to wait for the July 19th launch of the B-Class to know for sure.
The petrol engines can deliver power ranging from 109bhp and 204bhp and the diesel engines can churn out 122bhp and 204bhp.
The cheapest Mercedes-Benz is being called a sports tourer, a larger hatchback with loads of boot space. Essentially a five seater, the B-Class will offer sufficient luggage space for a long road trip. The new Mercedes car is expected to be priced around Rs.20 lakhs. The low price tag will provide Indian car buyers an opportunity to own a luxury car for the price of a premium SUV such as the Toyota Fortuner or the Chevrolet Captiva.
