Maruti Suzuki Set To Sign Deal With Gujarat Govt

The largest carmaker in the country is expected to set up the new facility with an initial capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually. According to the agreement, the Gujarat government will allocate 500 acres for Maruti Suzuki which is going to set up its first facility out of Haryana.
The carmaker will initially invest Rs 6,000 crore into the Gujarat facility where it is planning to manufacture 20 lakh cars later. The seventh manufacturing unit of the carmaker in the country, the Bechraji facility is expected to be functional in the next five years.
A state official commented: "The June 2 agreement will enable the company execute its strategic plans in the state."Another official added: "Over 500 acre is in possession of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation for setting up an industrial estate. However, the plan never materialised and now it will be sold to Maruti Suzuki India for its expansion plans in India."
The state of Gujarat has become the largest auto hub of the country. With General Motors and Tata Motors already manufacturing their vehicles in the state, a facility for Ford Motors is under construction and auto manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hero Motocorp and Peugeot Citroen are set to build their manufacturing facilities there.
