Maruti Suzuki increases its salaries every three years. The new salary hike is the highest in the carmaker's 30 year history. The previous hike was just 6% in 2009. We can say Maruti Suzuki has been more than liberal in this year's salary hike.
A senior Maruti Suzuki executive has stated that the company had considered several factors including inflation while deciding the pay hike. We believe the carmaker is hoping these new salaries will help reduce the tension between workers and the management. Maruti Suzuki has seen four strikes in the past one year with the last one in July taking a violent turn.
In another positive development for the workers, Maruti Suzuki has decided to absorb a majority of its temporary workers in to its permanent work force.
