Mahindra Will Not Sell Scorpio In US

In a statement to the media yesterday, Mahindra and Mahindra has stated that it has decided not to proceed with its plans after it failed to obtain necessary clearances from the US government. The company also said changed regulatory and market situations were also reason for deciding not to sell the Scorpio pick up in the US.
Mahindra was also involved with legal disputes with its US distributor. It is also facing several lawsuits from dealers who claim Mahindra has intentionally delayed getting certification. Mahindra's US plans have been hit both legally and by authorities.
Mahindra has not specified the reasons behind it not getting required approvals from the US government. Mahindra had plans to launch the Scorpio Pick up and then launch its successful SUV XUV 500 in the US. However, its recent announcement puts a brake on these plans.
Mahindra has stated that it would keep an eye over changing market situation in the US and respond to it accordingly. This means it has not completely ruled out its plans to enter the US car market.
Analysts opine Mahindra is looking at its Korean brand Ssangyong to make its US entry. Ssangyong has an more familiar brand image and its models are closer to matching US safety standards. Moreover, Ssangyong has a wide range of models that have received international appreciation.
