Maharashtra Govt Reduces Tax On Imported Cars

The Maharashtra Government has announced to slash vehicle tax on company owned and imported vehicles. The tax on imported cars will now be charged at 20 per cent of the price of the vehicle, down from 22 per cent for petrol cars and 26 per cent for diesel charged earlier.

The move by the state government was made as thousands of vehicles were reported of getting registered In other states were tax on imported vehicles are less. The cars were being registered in other states and later brought to Maharashtra to avoid heavy taxes in the state.

The tax on private vehicles was also raised in the state during the last budget. While 2 per cent has been increased on petrol cars, tax on diesel cars has been increased by 4 per cent.

The tax hike on private vehicles has already been implemented. Meanwhile, the government said that the cut in tax on imported cars will come in to effect immediately.
