Jaguar Land Rover To Set Up Plant In Brazil

Local assembly of cars is crucial for Jaguar Land Rover as it helps keep costs down. Jaguar Land Rover consider Brazil as a very important market as it is growing to become the world's third largest car market by soon overtaking Japan.
JLR chief executive Ralph Speth who spoke about Jaguar Land Rover's Brazil plans said the company was planning to set up an assembly line or a full fledged plant. However he added it was still assessing if the country could generate the required sales volume that would justify a plant.
Jaguar and Land Rover are two British premium car brands that Tata Motors bought from Ford in 2008. The two car brands have three manufacturing plants in the UK where the bulk of its production handled. Tata Motors started assembling the Freelander 2 in India at its own facility in 2011.
Jaguar Land Rover are not the first brands to consider the option of assembling its cars in Brazil. German premium car brand BMW has also indicated it wants to have an assembly plant in the South American country to tap the growing market for upmarket cars.
Both these brands have seen their fortunes improve drastically soon after the end of the recession. While Jaguar is motoring ahead with its sports cars and executive sedans, Land Rover has had a huge boost following the launch of the Evoque SUV.
