Honda Aims At One Million India Customers By 2017

Japanese carmaker Honda said that it is aiming to double the number of customers in India to one million in the next five years. Honda has been losing market share in the Indian market due to the lack of diesel engines.

Honda Siel Cars India's newly appointed President and CEO Hironori Kanayama said: "India is one of the most dynamic markets and has huge potential for growth. I want to increase the number of total customers from current five lakh to a million in the next five years."

He added: "We have got ambitious business plan for the Indian car business and we want to be the number one in the country." He said the City sedan and Brio small would be the main growth drivers for the company's growth in India.

Meanwhile, Honda has developed the Earth Dreams series of diesel engines and the company is reportedly planning to launch its diesel cars in India by end of 2012. The carmaker has been holding high brand value in the country with it being ranked number two consistently after Maruti Suzuki India in customer satisfaction according to a study conducted by JD Power and Associates.
