Honda Accord's Future On Thin Ice

Honda Accord
Recently Honda unveiled the next generation Accord. The next generation accord is slated to go on sale shortly. On the other hand, its future is on thin ice in India. Most likely Indian's will not witness or get to drive the next generation Honda Accord. Drivespark looks deeper into this episode.

As you are aware, petrol cars are not being favored much in our country due to the sky-rocketing petrol prices. Honda has also faced a slump in sales, with regards to their premium petrol cars. Is Honda looking at a Maruti path?

Maruti has been a front runner for many years by selling small sized cars. Honda in the coming days, will be looking at launching premium small cars in India. To kick-start that journey, Honda introduced the Brio small car last year September.

What has cause this dismay?

Honda would soon discontinue the Civic, followed by the Accord. From our understanding, one of the primary reasons is less local assembly. Honda Civic and Accord petrol cars are priced high. These cars enter India via the Custom Knocked Down {CKD) route. Thus soaring Yen and depreciating rupee, low sales volumes, low level of localization and high petrol prices, contribute to Honda pulling the plug on these cars.

Honda's Future Pillars?

Honda a while ago split up with SIEL and now its Indian operations are a wholly owned subsidiary. We feel its time, Honda brings in their Earth Dreams diesel engines into India. Drivespark feels, Honda's earth dreams fuel efficient diesel engine in the Brio and Jazz can revive Honda's status in India. What's your take on Honda's future?
