Ford EcoSport To Challenge Renault Duster's Price?
Ford Motors which was previously accused of not pricing the Fiesta well seems to have learnt its lesson. Ford India chief Michael Boneham has stated that the EcoSport will be a value proposition. He stated that with its compact size the EcoSport can be an affordable car and will challenge mid size sedans in terms of pricing.
Ford has ensured the EcoSport is not longer than four metres. This means the compact SUV will attract a lower excise duty and hence a lower price. Speculations are rife about the EcoSport's price in India being lesser than that of the Fiesta sedan. The Fiesta is slightly longer than four metres.
The American carmaker has recently revealed the rich feature list of the EcoSport. The EcoSport gets a voice enabled multimedia interface called the SYNC that can connect with mobile phones and audio devices through bluetooth or USB. Ford's compact SUV will also get ESP, ABS, traction control, hill assist etc. These features are currently available in the new Fiesta ion whose platform the EcoSport is based.
The Renault Duster will not be the only challenge for the Ford EcoSport. Mahindra will launch its mini Xylo now named as the Quanto in September. SUV sales in India have overtaken sedans for the first time this year and these new models will definitely push the presence of SUVs on Indian roads.
The Renault Duster's starting price is Rs. 7.19 lakhs while the top end variant is priced at a hefty Rs.11.29 lakhs. The Ford Fiesta Sedan is priced between Rs. 7.34 lakhs and Rs.10.15 lakhs. Considering the price of these two cars, we can expect at least the entry level variant of the Ford EcoSport to be priced just above Rs.7 lakhs.
