Cell Phone Use Kills 5,000 in US Every Year

Texting While Driving
A recent study conducted in the United States says that texting and talking over the phones while driving are killing more than 5,000 people every year on the country's highways. The report further adds that teen drivers get distracted easily by text messages and phone call while driving.

An environment report on a study conducted in 2009 on drivers of larger vehicles and trucks says that texting was 23 times more risky to cause an accident compared with non-distracted driving. Environmental researcher Uvid Hosansky wrote: "Texting drivers took their eyes off the road for each text an average of 4.6 seconds, which at 55 mph means they were driving the length of a football field without looking."

The act of using cell phones during driving invites not only driving accidents, but also penalties and punishments. The study also suggests that talking on cell phones, whether hands-free or hand-held, while driving leads to impairment similar to that of a drunk driver.

In India also, talking over the phone wile driving could be seen often. The governments are palnning to impose heavy fines to prevent people from using phones while driving.
