BMW Planning To Assemble Mini Locally
BMW had introduced iconic British brand Mini in India at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. However, the high price tag of Mini cars has been discouraging people from going after one of the most sought out brands in the world.
Prices of the cars which are imported as CBU start from Rs 30 lakhs and above. The highly liked Cooper model is priced at Rs. 32,57,060/-, the Cooper S priced at Rs. 36,51,210/-, the Cooper Convertible priced at Rs. 39,31,210/- and the Cooper Countryman priced at Rs. 41,98,210/- (all prices on-road, Mumbai).

To find a way out, BMW is now planning to manufacture Mini cars locally. Reports are that the German carmaker is contemplating local assembling of the cars at its south India plant of Chennai from mid 2013.
At current prices, Mini cars can be compared to that of German premium cars like the BMW 3 series, Mercedes C Class and the Audi A4. Let's hope we can enjoy the go-cart fun ride at affordable prices once the carmaker starts producing its cars in India.
