Rare Aston Martin Sells For Record $1.9 Million

UK's Bonhams auctioneers has sold a rare Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato Sanction II Coupé at a record price of $1.9 million. The 1991 car was owned by Phil Collins' manager, Tony Smith, and has been driven less than 5,000 miles.

The auction was held at the 13th Bonhams sale at the Aston Martin Works in Buckinghamshire drawing a record crowd of 2,000. Aston Martin cars have been high on popularity for its association with James Bond movies.

With only four Sanction II Coupés ever made, the value of the car will go high in the coming years. The four cars, built using an original 1960 DB4 GT Zagato chassis, sat unused after demand for the car didn't meet initial expectation.

The Sanction II is a powerful car with a 4.2-litre six-cylider engine generating 352 bhp. The car possesse improved handling with mechanical changes to the suspension and limited slip differential.

Besides the Sanction II Coupé, other Aston Martin marvels favored by many famous personalities also featured in the auction. It was a 1962 DB4 Vantage Convertible that sold for the second highest value fetching £611,000.
