BMW To Recall 3,422 Units Of 5 & 6 Series In India

This is subsequent to the global recall announcement of over 13 lakh cars in USA, Germany, Britain and China. Earlier, carmakers like Tata Motors, Nissan, Rolls Royce, Honda and Maruti Suzuki had made similar recalls to replace faulty parts.
According to reports, there could be a defective battery-cable cover in the trunk of the car that could lead to some electrical problems which could result in a fire. BMW India said in a statement, "In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted. This can result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, to charring or fire."
It added that not more than one per cent of the cars inspected for this problem had a defect and there were no reports of fires that could have resulted from this electrical problem. The company further said that it was writing to owners of cars that need to be recalled informing them about the possible defect. The cars can be taken to the nearest BMW showroom where it can be repaired in 30 minutes to an hour free of charge.
Recall of cars in India was not as common as carmakers feared that it would create a negative impact on the brand. The country also lacks an official recall policy letting the manufacturers remain silent over the issue. Last month, another German manufacturer Porsche had recalled its Cayenne SUV in India to rework its headlight locking system.
