Hyundai Workers To Sign Truce Agreement

Hyundai Motors India
Hyundai Motors India, the country's second largest carmaker is set to avert a possible altercation with its workers union. Workers at the Korean carmaker's plant near Chennai have been raising several labor issues and were threatening a strike. Recent news reports say the carmaker and its workers are on their way to sign an agreement.

The workers are being represented by the United Union of Hyundai Employees of Hyundai Motor India. The union and the company management are in negotiations and a positive result is expected soon. There were some disturbances in Hyundai's plant earlier when the company decided to increase productivity numbers.

Hyundai Motors had earlier refused to recognize the workers union as there was a workers committee. Now it has given official recognition to the union and will henceforth interact with it regarding any labor issues. The carmaker has stated it granted recognition only after it was assured workers would not resort to any sort of violence against police or other workers.

The situation at Hyundai's plant near Chennai was getting close to a boiling point before talks began. There were reports of new workers unions being formed and a possible strike. This situation was very much similar to the strike at Maruti Suzuki's plant in Manesar. Maruti Suzuki had to face three long strikes before it could get back to full production after facing some labor issues.
