Chevy To Build Compact SUV To Counter EcoSport

The new point of altercation between Ford and General Motors' Chevrolet in India will be the compact SUV segment. Ford is the first among the two to have entered the compact SUV segment when it unveiled the EcoSport at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. Reports are now coming in that Chevrolet is in the process of building its own compact SUV.
The Chevy compact SUV currently under development looks like a smaller sibling of the Captiva. GM has applied for patents for a compact SUV. The frontal design, headlights and grille are similar to the Captiva. The compact SUV is said to be a four wheel drive vehicle meaning it will be a serious off-roader too.
The compact SUV segment in India will soon hot up as Renault is also expected to launch its duster in the coming months. Ford has so far not disclosed when it will launch its EcoSport. If Chevrolet does bring in a compact SUV, it will no doubt be priced in the similar range as the Duster and EcoSport.
The Chevy compact SUV will also be an intermediate vehicle between the Tavera and the Captiva. It can be the ideal car for some one who wants a comfortable off roader but is not as expensive as the Captiva. Further, there is little doubt among carmakers that compact SUVs are the cars of the future. Urban car buyers are looking at cars as not just means of transportation but also as symbols of their age and position.
While SUVs are considered the best way ahead, compact SUVs with their better fuel economy and price will offer the practicality of owning a compact car with the performance of an SUV.
