Tata Nano Praised BY Top US Official

The Tata Nano is getting more international fans and now it is the turn of a top US government official to laud the Indian low cost car. The dream project of Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata has now been backed by Robert D Hormats who is the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment.

Mr Hormats has said the Nano has set new standards for low cost cars by using high degree innovations in technology. He is quoted to have said: “The $3,000 Nano developed and manufactured by India's Tata Motors has set new global standards for low-cost vehicles.”

The Under Secretary has praised the Nano in his article in the Huffington Post. He has said the Nano is a price example of innovations being used for affordable transportation for the masses. He went on to say the intellectual property rights of companies developing such innovations must be protected.

Tata Motors has filed several patents on the Nano's design and technology. The Nano has been developed by Tata Motors in India but some of its technological features have been developed at Tata's research facilities in Europe. The Nano is the world's cheapest car, currently priced At Rs.1.8 lakhs.

Initially launched with a starting price of Rs.1 lakh for the entry level variant making it the cheapest car in the world, a title it has so far retained without much competition from others. The Nano has found buyers in International markets after Tata Motors started exporting it to neighboring countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh.
