450 Protesting Ford India Employees Arrested

Ford Strike
Nearly 450 employees of Ford Motor India’s Chennai plant were held for protesting at the factory demanding reinstatement of their dismissed co-workers. Ford employees alleged that the company sacked 9 employees from the factory stating violation of the company’s code of integrity.

The employees had begun a sit-in-strike from yesterday at the factory demanding reinstatement of the employees. The detained workers have been currently housed in marriage halls in neighbouring Singaperumal Kovil and Maraimalai Nagar.

Meanwhile, Ford India said in a statement: "Nine employees at Ford's Chennai operation violated the company's code of integrity. Their employment was terminated after due enquiry process. The plant continues to operate its normal production schedule." The company also said that production wasn’t affected at the plant due to the strike.

Currently the company builds its new Global Fiesta, Figo premium hatchback and Endeavour premium SUV in its Chennai facility. The American auto major which is also planning to launch many new models in the coming years is all set to build a similar manufacturing facility in Gujarat.
