Dacia Duster To Be Made India Too
Renault's Romanian subsidiary Dacia has released a press release 100 days before the launch of the Duster in the UK. It has stated that its factories were finding it hard to cater to the expanding demand for the left hand drive Duster in Europe. It added that its European factories were unable to churn out enough right hand drive Dusters for the UK.
Hence it would soon begin building the Duster in the new Renault-Nissan factory in India. It added that deliveries of the made in India Duster will begin only by January 2013. reports say the Dacia Duster's production in India will begin later next year. The same plant also builds the Nissan Micra, Sunny, Renault Fluence and Koleos.
The Duster will be Renault's fourth model in India once it is launched. Expected to be priced around Rs.10 lakhs, it is expected to provide Renault a much needed boost in sales. The Duster's launch in India is expected to be followed by the launch of Evalia.
Renault will be building both the two wheel drive and four wheel drive version of the Duster. It is yet unclear of it will be selling the later in India considering it has to keep the car's price low. The Duster will be primarily marketed as a low cost SUV.
The Dacia Duster made in India will have some changes compered to the Duster to be sold in India. It has a different grille and headlights. It will also not carry the Renault badge and instead will have the Dacia logo.
The Dacia Duster costs between Rs.8.1 lakhs and Rs.10 lakhs in the UK. You can get a fair idea of how much the Duster will cost in India from this.
