Maruti Suzuki Confirms Ertiga Launch On April 12
The car will be priced from Rs 7-9 lakhs. It will be available in 6 variants with both petrol and diesel engines and it will be the first MPV from Maruti to have a diesel engine. Earlier, the carmaker had brought the not so successful MPVs (more to be vans) Eco and Versa. The Ertiga will have more competitors in the coming times with the 2012 launches of Nissan Evalia and GM’s yet to be named MPV.
Maruti Suzuki India managing executive officer (marketing) Mayank Pareek said: “We launched Swift in 2005 and started the revolution in premium hatchback segment. We were aiming to sell 2,000 units per month but demand happened to be much more. With Ertiga, we are attempting to create a niche category as a city vehicle that is easy to drive and park in cramped parking spaces. The Ertiga will definitely have a waiting period even before launch.”
This clearly indicates Maruti Suzuki will open bookings for the Ertiga days before its commercial launch. If you are waiting to buy the Ertiga, we would suggest that you walk in to your closest Maruti showroom and enquire about the Ertiga's bookings. You might be lucky enough not to wait too long for the Maruti MPV.
Although the Ertiga can accommodate 7 people inside the car, the MPV is much smaller comparing to Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo. The shorter size will mean greater maneuverability. A 5-seater version of the Ertiga also will be available with added versatility. We will have to wait and see if Ertiga can repeat the magic which Maruti had done with its Swift compact hatchback.
