GM To Launch Sail Small Car In India By July-Sept

Chevrolet-Sail
American carmaker General Motors is planning to launch its Sail premium hatchback in India by July-September 2012. With the arrival of the Sail, the car would be GM's fourth small car in the market under the Chevrolet brand after Spark, Beat and Avio U-VA.

The Sail is expected to come in both petrol and diesel models and reportedly would be priced in 5-6 lakh range. The car, once launched will give strong competition to Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Nissan Micra and Ford Figo. GM seems to be making a smart move by bringing the diesel variant of the Sail as diesel cars have been seeing a huge demand due to its cheap price comparing to petrol.

The auto giant will reportedly also launch a newer version of the Chevrolet Captiva and a new MPV in 2012. Earlier, there were reports that the Trailblazer SUV, recently launched in Thailand may soon explore the Indian market.

GM sales vice president S. Sawhney said, "We would be launching the Sail in Q3, and the small car segment along with the multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) will continue to be our main focus." Meanwhile, GM is expecting sales growth of 8-10 per cent in India this year. The new Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BS IV MPV model was launched by the company last week.
