American carmaker General Motors said that it expects to grow by 8-10 per cent in sales in India this year. The new Chevrolet Tavera Neo 3 BS IV MPV model was launched in Kolkata on Monday, 26 March.

Speaking at the event, GM India President and Managing Director Lowell C. Paddock said, “We are expecting a 8-10 per cent growth in sales in India this year. A total of 1.5 lakh Tavera models were sold in India since 2006, and in the last year we sold 21,000 Tavera, 45,000 Beat and 22,000 models of Spark."

GM is mainly putting its sales hope on the new Chevrolet Tavera, Beat compact hatchback and the Spark small car. The new Tavera was launched last week with a starting price of Rs 7.51 lakh. Meanwhile, GM has sold 2.25 vehicles so far under its Chevrolet brand in India.

GM has so far invested USD 1 billion since its operation in India in 2003 any plan of further investment was dismissed the GM India President. He also made it clear that GM won't enhance production if the expected sales growth is achieved as the automobile industry was facing a recession.
