BMW Recalls 13 Lakh Cars With Electric Problems

BMW AG has announced a massive recall of 13 lakh cars after it found electrical problems in cars built between 2003 and 2010. According to reports there could be a defective battery cable cover in the trunk of the car that could lead to some electrical problems which could result in a fire.

In a statement, BMW AG the recalled cars due to this problem would be the 5-Series and 6-Series models built between 2003 and 2010. The statement said: In some remote cases, the battery cable cover inside the boot of these vehicles may be incorrectly mounted. This can result in the electrical system malfunctioning, the vehicle failing to start and, in some cases, to charring or fire.”

BMW has said not more than one percent of the cars inspected for this problem had a defect. It also added that there were no reports of fires that could have resulted from this electrical problem.

BMW has added that it was writing to owners of cars that need to be recalled informing them about the possible defect. The carmaker added the cars need to be taken to the nearest BMW showroom where it can be repaired in 30 minutes to an hour free of charge.

Most of the cars recalled have been sold in the USA where 3.68 lakh cars need this repair. It is followed by German y where 2.93 lakh cars need to be recalled. BMW also said 1.09 lakh cars in Britain and 1.02 cars in China will also be recalled. The German carmaker has not stated if there were any cars that need to be recalled in India.
