Nissan Leaf Will Now Power Your Home

Nissan Leaf
Nissan Motors has unveiled a new power system for its Leaf electric car. This charging mechanism will provide electricity to households from the car whenever there is a power outage. This new system is part of Nissan's plans to reduce emissions from its cars.

The Nissan Leaf is Nissan's first electric car. It runs on a 24kWh lithium ion battery and the new power system can transfer some of that power to the house. The system has been unveiled in a house built in front of Nissan's global head quarters in Japan.

Nissan has demonstrated how the Leaf can be used to power the house. The battery can store electricity needed for a regular household for three days. So whenever you bring the car in, you can connect it to the rid so that you have backup power in case of an emergency.

The Leaf's ability to provide electricity to the house becomes vital to a country like Japan which has ben continuously ravaged by natural calamities like earth quakes and tsunamis. People who own a Leaf will not only own a green car but also have a mobile power source.

If you are able to charge the Leaf using renewable sources of power such as wind or solar energy, the Leaf will truly be a zero emission car. And this power can then be used to use household appliances.

Nissan has said it was planning to market this new power system by the end of this financial year. Although Nissan had displayed the Leaf at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, it has not confirmed if it wants to sell this car in India.

Electric cars have not found as much support from car buyers as well as manufacturers in India. Reva is the only electric carmaker here and Reva's sales have been nothing apart from ordinary. The Nissan Leaf has had a promising run in markets including Europe and the Americas.
