Suzuki Suspends Union Leaders To Quell Strikes

Strike Fears Emerge Again
Strikes and the auto sector appear to go hand in hand particularly in the northern parts of India. Gurgaon saw some tense moments on Friday when Suzuki Motorcycles India suspended three union leaders which could lead to another strike.

The company officials have stated that these workers, Suzuki Motorcycles Employees Union vice president Praminder Kumar, general secretary Avinash Kumar and secretary Gulshan Kumar, were suspended after they were involved in a brawl with senior company executives.

The workers have their own version of the story. Union secretary Gambhir singh has stated that the company was trying to create an uncomfortable atmosphere for workers. He went on to allege that Suzuki Motorcycles India's management did not want to give incentives to workers and has therefore creating problems to workers.

Workers at Suzuki Motorcycles has earlier expressed their support to the striking workers at Maruti Suzuki's Manesar plant. There were three long strikes within a span of four months last year that had nearly crippled India's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki.
