Mitsubishi Mirage Launched In Thailand. India?

The next stop for the Mirage could well be India as the company's Executive Officer and Corporate GM, Masahiko Ueki had expressed his interest to launch the global small car in India during the launch of the Pajero Sport. The Mirage could be an ideal new car for Mitsubishi which has so far been considered as a fringe player in the car market.
Mitsubishi has indicated that it wants to boost its presence in India and this could happen with or without long term partner Hindustan Motors. The Mirage will be an ideal car for the Japanese carmaker to make a mark for itself in India. Powered by a 1.2-litre MPFI petrol engine that generates 77bhp and 100NM of torque, the mirage can be an ideal city car,
The Mirage can be considered as a compact hatchback that is of a similar size as the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai i20. This means the Mirage will be entering the fastest growing segment in the Indian car market.
The Mitsubishi Mirage is available with a five speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox in Thailand. Mitsubishi India might only launch the manual version in India. It could do itself lot of good if it also adds a diesel engine to Mirage considering the huge demand for diesel cars.
The pricing is the most important aspect of a car such as the Mirage in India. Launched with a starting price of 3.8 lakh baht or Rs.6.3 lakhs, the Mirage's price is similar to that of ta Swift or an i20. If Mitsubishi does use the services of Hindustan Motors to build its small car and also increase localization, we could well have a cheaper Mirage in India.
