Maruti Suzuki Sets Up Driving Institute At Rohtak

Maruti Suzuki Limited, India's leading car maker, has set up a modern Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) at Rohtak, Haryana. The new institute which is spread over an area of 14 acres is expected to train 20,000 people annually.

The IDTR which was inaugurated by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has been formed in a public-private-partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Haryana government. The state-of-the-art facility has six class rooms with a capacity for 40 trainees each, two driving simulators, 1.8 km-long driving training tracks, six cars and two buses for training, a driving laboratory and a library.

The short-term courses at the institute include training course for commercial drivers, learner driving training courses and customized driving training courses for police staff, auto drivers, learner licence aspirants and companies. The IDTR will also provide special training to traffic rule offenders.

Maruti Suzuki has been already running about 200 driving schools across the country training more than 10 lakh individuals. Further more, the company had announced that it will increase the number of driving schools to 400 within the next 2 to 3 years.

According to a report by the International Road Federation, around 1.6 lakh lives are lost annually in road accidents in India. Hope more companies follow Maruti Suzuki by taking up such initiatives and coming with similar programmes in the future.
