Maruti Workers Demand 5 Fold Increase In Wages

Maruti Suzuki Workers
Maruti Suzuki's workers at its Manesar plant have demanded increased wages for the next three years. Maruti Suzuki revises wages every three years and the newly created Maruti Suzuki Workers Union has demanded huge wage hikes to the tune of five times in some cases.

The workers union has presented some 20 demands to Maruti Suzuki's management days before the scheduled negotiations begin between the workers and management. Maruti Suzuki's wages are considered a bench mark by other car manufacturers and this will be watched closely vy every one.

It is yet unclear how Maruti Suzuki will deal with the demand for higher wages considering the heavy losses it had suffered during the three strikes at Manesar. The workers have gained confidence after their union was officially recognized by the government.

The workers union is set to start its negotiations with the management. Maruti Suzuki so far has not responded to the reports on wage revisions at its plant. Workers have demanded higher wages as well as increased number of leaves, conveyance and other facilities.
