Mahindra Reva Planning Australian Assembly Plant

Mahindra REVA Electric Vehicles Chief of Strategy and Technology Chetan Maini said: “We are looking at possibility to set up a local assembly unit in Victoria. A feasibility study is going on at present and it is expected to complete in the next six months.” A final decision will be made after the feasibility study is completed.
Mahindra Reva already has a presence in the international market as it is now exporting its Reva electric car to the UK. It will add Australia to this list by exporting its future models to Australia to see if there is sufficient demand for its products. The first Mahindra Reva electric car in Australia could be the Reva NXR. Local manufacturing will begin if there is a positive response from Australian buyers.
Reva is expected to launch its Reva NXR in India this year. The NXR is a more practical car compared to its current model as it offers convenient space for four adults and has a longer range. The Reva NXR was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo held in January.
If Mahindra Reva sets up a new manufacturing facility in Australia, it will be its first international facility and third overall. It has two manufacturing facilities in Bangalore, India. Mahindra Reva has signed MoUs with two Victoria-based research organisations -- AutoCRC and La Trobe University's Centre for Technology Infusion. These two firms will help Reva develop more eco friendly technology.
