Petrol Pump Dealers Postpone Strike

Petrol pump dealers had announced earlier last week that they would go on a strike on 23rd April demanding higher commission form oil companies. The Federation of All India Petroleum Traders (FAITP) which claims it has 40,000 dealers under it has also demanded dealers must be allowed to charge customers for facilities such as water, air and toilets.
The petrol pump dealers had also threatened to go on a indefinite strike starting from the end of this month. The dealers have stated they must be allowed to charge Rs. 2 to fill air in two wheelers, Rs.5 in cars and Rs.20 in buses and trucks.
While the decision to defer the strike by petrol pump dealers is welcome, motorists will now need to worry about the extra money they will need to spend in pumps. If the commission for dealers is increased, it will directly lead to an increase in fuel prices as oil companies would not want to take that burden. Moreover motorists will also need to pay money for air pressure and water too.
The petrol pump dealers have demanded an increase in commission to Rs.1.49 per litre of petrol and Rs.0.91 per litre of diesel. When motorists are scared of even a single rupee's increase in fuel prices, the added burden of increased commissions is will not be good news.
