Anti Theft Seat Sensor System That Reads Your Bum

Anti-Theft Seat Sensor
We have all heard of finger prints, DNA and iris sensors. Now here comes another body feature that some believe is unique to an individual – your bum. Yes, a new car safety device is being developed that will identify the owner by the pressure applied on the seat.

Tokyo based Advanced Institute Of Industrial Technology has developed a new car safety device that measures the size, shape and weight of the person sitting on the driver's seat, compares it with the available data and only after confirming that the person sitting on the car is the owner will it allow the engine to be started.

This device has more than 360 sensors that will monitor the weight and the amount of pressure applied on the seat from different points. The system's on board computer will record the pressure signature of the owner and it will compare it with the pressure signature of the driver. If it finds the signatures does not match, it will not start the engine. This will help prevent theft in case some one has the car keys and attempts to drive it away.

The developers of this device claim it will prevent theft of cars. It has a an accuracy rating of 98 per cent which means two out of hundred people will not be recognized correctly. That is not something you would expect from an anti theft device. The developers have said they are working on improving the accuracy.

We noticed some glitches in this device. If your pressure signature will be used as a means of ascertaining your identity, then nobody else will be able to drive the car in case of an emergency. If by chance your weight changes dramatically, even you might not be able to start the car. The developers have said they will add a feature in which multiple signatures can be added to the system.

This anti-theft seat sensor is expected to reach mass production stage in about two to three years. It can be used as an anti-theft device as people can make a copy of your car keys but not of your back side.
