Budget Efffect:Audi Hikes Car Prices By Up To 14%

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in his budget for 2012-13 had announced an increased excise duty on imported cars priced above $40,000. The customs duty on imported cars having diesel engines larger than 3000cc for petrol cars and 2500cc for diesel cars has been increased from 60% to 75%.
The 15% increase in customs duty has been passed on to Audi India's customers. With excise duty on locally produced cars also increasing by 2%, Audi has increased car prices by 3.4% to3.7 per cent.
Audi India is yet to provide a complete breakup of the price hike in terms of models. It only said the prices of the A7 Sportback and RS5 would now be Rs.66.04 lakh and and Rs.85.95 lakhs respectively in Delhi.
Audi follows Mercedes-Benz which has also increased prices of its premium cars. Audi's best selling cars in India are the Q7 and Q5 premium SUVs. The carmaker has not revealed the new prices of these models.
