High Heeled Women Cause More Accidents,Says Study

Women driving in heels tend to create more accidents on road, said a study by Brake, a UK based road safety charity. The study says that more than 11.5 million women wear the wrong footwear while driving risking the lives of themselves as well as others.

Deputy Chief Executive of the charity, Julie Townsend was quoted as saying, “It is deeply worrying that many drivers have such little regard for their own and others' safety that they wear unsuitable footwear,” adding that women should not wear steep wedges, platform shoes or stilettos while driving.

The reason behind the accidents could be that they may not be able to apply proper controls at the right time. A survey had recently revealed that 40 per cent of women drive in high heels.

In a survey on 750 women by an Insurance company, 75 had admitted that they had an accident or a near-miss with their heels slipping off getting stuck between or under the pedals. The study comes in the wake of the news that the number of accidents at crossings in Britain increased massively in the last year. This may not be true with Indian drivers as most of them prefer to remove their shoes while driving.
