Will Tata Nano Diesel Really Come This Year?

Now reports about the Tata Nano Diesel's launch have increased as Bosche has reportedly completed development of the diesel engine that delivers a mileage of 40kmpl. The diesel Nano's mileage will be the key selling point for Tata Motors as the small car can have a running cost of just one rupee per kilometre, a figure that even most two wheelers cannot match.
Another speculating point is about the diesel Nano's price. Many expect the diesel variant of the Nano to be slightly more expensive than the petrol variant. Tata can ill afford to price the diesel Nano at a higher price, considering the Alto and Eon are not too far ahead. With on road prices of even the entry level Nano getting close to Rs.1.8 lakhs, we can definitely say the Diesel Nano will be priced at Rs.2.2 lakhs with the top end variant costing close to three lakhs.
Reports say Tata Motors is in the final phase of testing the diesel Nano and is preparing to launch it this year itself. With demand for diesel cars continuing to be high, a Diesel Nano will be a trump card that Tata Motors would not like to miss.
The Diesel Nano with its mileage of 40kmpl and running cost of Rs.1 per kilometre will be an attractive car to every one. Considering the fact that the government has not deregulated diesel prices, it will be a very attractive option when compared to even lower priced petrol cars. Even if diesel prices does go up later, its high mileage will keep it attractive to buyers.
