No More India Specific Models From Ford

Ford has embarked on a global policy called One Ford Policy. This policy is to develop global cars that are tweaked slightly to suit conditions of individual countries. The new Fiesta sedan and the recently unveiled EcoSport compact SUVs are products of this One Ford policy. Ford intends to design different types of cars on similar platforms to bring in uniformity in production as well as to reduce production casts.
Ford India's director for sales and marketing services Nigel Wark had earlier spoken about Ford's new policy. Ford had earlier announced plans to launch eight new global models in India. The new Fiesta and the EcoSport are part of this group. There are rumours of a facelift to the Figo in 2013. It is yet unclear of the new Figo will be based on Ford's global platform.
Ford has been successful with the Figo and the Fiesta classic despite both models being previous generation models. These two cars have impressed Indian car buyers thanks to their strong build quality , very good handling and desirable performance.
Ford India has stated that the One Ford policy was also necessary in India as Indian car buyers no longer wait for old cars to be brought in as new. They also want to but new cars available across the globe. This is the reason why several new models' global launches are happening in India at the same time as in other countries. In fact the global debut of the EcoSport happened at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo.
