Datsun To Launch Low Cost Cars By 2014

Datsun's launch was presided by Nissan India CEO Kiminobu Tokuyama who spoke elaborately on Nissan's global strategy – power88. The Japanese carmaker is aiming at a global market share of 8% and operational profits of 8% by 2016. The low cost car brand Datsun will have to play a major role if Nissan's plan has to succeed.
Nissan Japan's Ashwani Gupta spoke about Datsun's current plans and introduced the brand's new logo. He said: “Today I am here to announce the return of Datsun to the world. It will be Nissan's global brand with local products that ware aimed at up and coming car buyers. Datsun's cars will be affordable, durable and generous to its buyers.”
Speaking about the future plans for Datsun, Mr Gupta said: “Datsun is a brand primarily designed to cater to high growth markets such as India, Indonesia and Russia. These markets are expected to drive the auto industry in the future and Datsun will help us get a lead.”
The most important aspect about Datsun's cars will be its price. Mr Gupta said Datsun cars will be priced under Rs.4 lakhs. Two Datsun models are expected to be launched in India by 2014 and Mr Gupta said they will deliver modern styling, good mileage and styling that is attractive.
Datsun's cars are expected to have a high volume of locally procured parts making them easy to maintain. This will also keep running costs low. Nissan is looking for local auto component suppliers.
