Datsun To Launch Hatchback At Just Over Rs 2 Lakhs
It is being reported that Nissan is considering a new factory to build Datsun cars. Though, initial production will begin at Nissan's existing facility near Chennai.
Nissan's new MD and CEO of India operations Takayuki Ishida said the carmaker wants to produce “mass volume" vehicles under the Datsun brand. The Datsun brand was recently revived by Nissan aiming at emerging markets such as India Russia and Indonesia where demand for low cost cars is higher .
Ishida further said: "The Datsun cars will be launched around the second half of 2014, and we are targeting to showcase them at the Delhi Auto Expo at the beginning of the year. The pricing will be between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 4 lakh. This is the only way we can ensure that the cars are produced at a competitive price.”
Datsun is also planning to develop a small diesel engine for its hatchback. Nissan, which has invested Rs 3,000 crore in India so far, also intends to launch a series of cars under the Datsun brand.
