Tata Motors' Car Prices Increase By Up To 35K

Tata-Nano
Leading Indian vehicle manufacturer Tata Motors has hiked the prices of its passenger vehicles by up to Rs. 35,000. The auto major's decision has come in the wake of the hike in excise duty from 10 per cent to 12 per cent in the union budget for 2012-13.

Tata Motors stated in a release: "We have raised the prices as per the excise duty hike in the Budget. In passenger cars, the increase will vary between Rs 2,000 and Rs 8,000 depending upon various models."

Tata sells several passenger cars including the Nano small car, Indica hatchback and Indigo sedan. The price of utility vehicles like the Tata Safari, Aria and Sumo will be increased from Rs. 8000-35,000, but the carmaker did not clarify on the model-wise increase of prices.

"Regarding the commercial vehicles, we have decided to pass on the additional burden of two per cent to consumers. We have a wide range of products in this category," the statement added.

Tata Motors had said it would increase car prices soon after Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee presented his budget. But it had not specified the exact price hike for individual cars.
