Nissan's Smaller Cheaper Car To Counter Eon, Alto

Nissan India's executive vice president Andy Palmer has expressed the company's wish to enter the low price car section. He is quoted in the media to have said: We will look at an affordable car without a doubt. There are several sub-segments (under the Rs. 3-lakh space) and we have ambitions to traverse as many of those as practically possible."
Nissan currently builds the Micra and Sunny in India. The carmaker has a plant in Chennai and according to Mr andy Palmer, the plant has every capability to build an affordable small car. The dominance of the Maruti Suzuki Alto had remained largely untouched until the arrival of the Hyundai Eon. Nissan is now planning to build a car that will compete with both these cars.
It is very clear that Nissan is not considering the Bajaj RE60 as a possible alternative. The new Nissan small car will be a developed in house possibly with the help of alliance partner Renault. Reports say Renault is also very interested in building an affordable small car and the joint venture partners could work together towards this goal.
This will mean we will not have just one new cheap small car but two. We only hope these two cheap small car swill be identical copies like the Nissan Micra and the Renault Pulse.
