Volkswagen
The German juggernaut is moving on to bigger goals. Volkswagen, the German carmaker and currently the second largest carmaker in terms of sales has bigger plans for the future. While some thought its aim of becoming the world's No 1 carmaker was big enough, the company has though otherwise. It is now aiming to have 100 manufacturing plants across the globe.

The Volkswagen Group is now the biggest group of auto brands consisting of Volkswagen, Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini, Skoda, Seat, MAN trucks, Bugatti etc. It has a huge presence in its home market of Germany and is motoring ahead in Europe. It has also captured a sizable market in China, Russia and India.

Volkswagen is now concentrating at increasing sales in North America. It has already opened a plant in the US and is planning to open a plant for Audi in Mexico to increase the presence of its premium car brand in the Americas. Reports say Volkswagen is also looking at having a new plant in Malaysia with local carmaker Proton.

Volkswagen is confident it can have 100 manufacturing plants. Initial estimates for the number of plants required was pegged at 70 but the number increased to 100 after Volkswagen acquired Man trucks. 100 plants appears to a be a huge number for a company that currently has 39 plants across the globe. Volkswagen has not specified the time frame by which it intends to achieve its goal.
