Mitsubishi And Hindustan Motors Might Split Soon

The two companies have failed to launch any new models. The two recent model launches by Mitsubishi were only updates to existing models. While Hindustan Motors continues to sell its one and only car, Ambassador, Mitsubishi has barely managed to keep its sales afloat with its Lancer, Pajero and Outlander.
The signs about the split between these two carmakers had become apparent early this year when both decided to stay away from the 12th Delhi Auto Expo. Both carmakers said they had nothing new to offer during the event. The Indian Auto Expo is held once in two years and yet Mitsubishi or Hindustan Motors did not even have a concept car to show.
There are reports that state Mitsubishi wants to launch its small car called Mirage in India soon. But it does not have the infrastructure to build this car in the required scale. If Mitsubishi has to make a splash in the Indian small car market, then it needs bigger investments and a free hand in the market which it cannot get with Hindustan Motors.
While Mitsubishi has said it is considering the option building its small car at HM's Chennai plant, it is quick to add that it was also considering other options such as going on its own. There have been several break ups in the auto industry and it is yet unclear if Mitsubishi and Hindustan Motors will join the list.
