Ford Presents Futuristic Mobile Apps
Ford is planning to develop some cool apps that will interact with the car's communication systems and give out some useful information to the driver. Ford has said people using its mobile apps will be able to send emails and SMS to selected contacts based on their position during a journey.
The mobile app will be able to deduce if the person is running late for a meeting by determining the speed of the vehicle and the remaining distance. It will soon send an email or an SMS to the waiting people about the possibility of a delay and the expected time of arrival. The Ford Mobil app can also send the geographical location of your car to your closed ones when you are on a long journey.
Today's smart phones have several apps that help in a journey. People no longer carry paper maps when they go on a new route. Instead they just open the GPS in their mobiles to find their way around. There are other kind of apps that help you find the closest restaurant, movie theatre or a hospital. But all these apps work independently from the car.
Ford's mobile apps will be working with the car's systems. Constantly communicating with each other the mobile app can bring the experience of a car drive to a whole new level.
Ford has said these mobile apps were being developed by HCL Technologies in the OpenXC project. Ford has not specified if there was a production ready product. Local developers will be getting the OpenXC project so that they can develop their own unique market specific applications. Ford has already sent some beta kits of OpenXC to universities and developers to accelerate the car app development.
