Maruti Suzuki To Invest Rs.2,000 Cr In Gurgaon

Maruti Suzuki has revealed plans to make huge investments at its first plant in Gurgaon. The Indian carmaker will invest as much as Rs.2,000 crores to build a diesel engine production unit in Gurgaon. If reports are to be believed, this engine plant will be building engines exclusively for the Swift and Swift DZire.

Demand for the diesel variants of the above mentioned cars are so high that Maruti Suzuki has had to cut down production of the diesel powered SX4 sedan. Maruti Suzuki has said it will produce about 1.5 lakh diesel engines this year for the Swift and Swift DZire.

Maruti Suzuki which lost a bit of its market share early last year is keen to wrest back most of it within the next two years. It has planned several investments to boost production and to develop new models. It is currently acquiring land for its third manufacturing plant in Gujarat where it will make investments more than Rs.4,000 crores.

The sales of diesel cars has increased dramatically in the last two years. Many carmakers including Maruti Suzuki found their production capacity of diesel cars did not meet demand and are now investing on increasing the number of diesel engines produced.

Maruti Suzuki India's Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager (marketing) disclosed the carmaker's plans during the launch of the new Ertiga in Indore.
