GM's Beat Diesel Engines To Be Exported

Smartech Diesel Engine
General Motors is planning to export the India developed Smartech diesel engine to other diesel car driven car markets. According to reports coming in, the Smartech engine will be soon used in new cars to be launched by General Motors in India too.

The Smartech diesel engine's export comes as a no surprise as it has been credited to being one of the most fuel efficient diesel engines in the country. It has been developed exclusively by GM's research and development wing in Bangalore. This engine can be credited with the Chevrolet Beat's sales performance. The Beat has overtaken the Tavera and the Spark as Chevy's best selling car only after its diesel variant was launched.

The Smartech engine is GM's smallest diesel engine. GM has huge plans for this engine as it has potential to be fitted in almost any small car, be it a hatchback, a sedan or an SUV. Demand for diesel cars is increasing in not only India but also in several other countries. GM intends to use this engine in South Africa, Europe and South east Asia.

GM is also planning to launch new models in India. Some of them will be based on GM's chinese partner SAIC's models. All these models might be powered by the Smartech diesel engine. GM's plans to export the Smartech engine also signifies the growing confidence the American carmaker has on its Indian operations.
