Mini Recalls 90,000 Cars Over Fire Fears
Mini in its statement has stated it had not found serious incidents of fires in the Cooper S or Cooper S convertible but had initiated the recall to avoid any untoward incident. Mini has received 81 reports of water pump failures and four engine fires since 2009.
BMW Mini has stated it would begin notifying customers with the affected cars from next month. We had earlier reported about BMW and Rolls_Royce announcing rrecalls that were related to similar failure of auxiliary water pumps. Not surprisingly Mini, which is also part of BMW is facing similar issues.
Currently several auto components are shared between car makers and car brands. They are also purchasing spare parts from single companies. At such a situation even a single faulty part can impact several car models from different carmakers. It can be recalled that Toyota was forced to recall millions of its cars only due to the fact that one faulty component was used in almost all its models.
