Mahindra Launches XUV 500 In Australia
Mahindra has finally begun what it had hoped to start late last year. The Indian SUV specialist has finally made the XUV 500 a global SUV in the international market by launching it in Australia. Mahindra had always said the XUV 500 was its global model and its plans to launch the XUV in the international market was curtailed due to the high demand in India.
XUV 500's Australian debut was made easier after it received a four star rating from the Australian road safety authority ANCAP. Mahindra has intelligently priced the XUV 500 just below Australian market leader Holden's Captiva. The Mahindra XUV 500's price in Australia is $29,900 for the two wheel drive variant and $32,900 for the top end four wheel drive variant. This price is comparatively lower than that of the Holden Captiva (sold as the Chevrolet Captiva in India).

The Mahindra XUV 500 is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 140bhp and 330 NM of torque. It has been one of the most successful SUV launches in recent years in India and demand has far out weighed supply. Mahindra is still struggling to bring down its waiting period in India. It remains to be seen if the XUV 500 will receive the same levels of enthusiasm form Australian buyers.
Mahindra will offer premium features such as Italian leather upholstery, satellite-navigation with a high-resolution colour LCD touchscreen, Bluetooth phone and music streaming, LED parking lamps, tire pressure monitor and twin exhaust tips.
Mahindra has already displayed the XUV 500 in the South African Auto Show and is also planning to launch it in the USA.
