Is Tata Motors Preparing For Nano CNG Launch?
Tata Motors which did not unveil the diesel powered version of the Nano did the next best thing possibly by unveiling a CNG version of the small car at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The CNG Tata Nano with attracted quite a crowd and Tata Motors appears to have decided to launch it soon.
CNG powered cars have seen an increase in demand particularly in cities where the fuel is easily available. With petrol prices shooting up and diesel cars remaining more expensive than petrol cars, people are opting for CNG cars that have a lower running costs than petrol and even diesel in some cases.
An unnamed Tata Motors official has been quoted in reports stating that the carmaker will soon begin producing the Tata Nano with CNG. The car is also expected to be completed by the end of this fiscal year.
Tata Motors was said to have planned to build the diesel Nano and start selling it by the end of this year. However there appears to be a delay and the diesel Nano will be launched only next year.
Coming back to the CNG powered Tata Nano, it is expected to deliver a much higher fuel economy than the petrol version. The features of the car are expected to be the same as the existing model. However the most important factor will the CNG Nano's price.
This price will also determine the pricing position of the diesel Nano which will be launched later. Reports say the diesel Nano will be powered by a 800cc twin cylinder engine already used in the Tata Ace light commercial vehicle.
