Mercedes To Invest Rs.350Cr & Launch 5 new Models

German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz will be investing a whopping Rs.350 crores in its plant in Chakan, Maharashtra to boost production capacity. Benz is keen to capitalize on its image in India and launch several new models that will help it compete against BMW and Audi.

According to reports, Mercedes-Benz's investment in India will be used to develop new production capacities by installing new lines of manufacturing. The German carmaker wants to launch at least five compact premium car models within the next two years. Benz wants to regain its number one position in the Indian premium car market.

Dieter Zetsche, the head of Mercedes-Benz Cars and Chairman of the board of management at Daimler AG has spoken about the importance of India for the company. He has stated: “India is an important growth market for the firm. We see high demand for our A and B Class segments in India. We plan to enlarge our dealer network and ramp up production capacities."

Mercedes-Benz has so far invested Rs.650 crores in India. The new investment will take the total to Rs.1,000 crores. The company is planning to launch its B-Class sedan as well as the A-class compact car in India. These two models will be joined by new SUVs too.
