Mahindra's New MPV On Maxximo Platform

Mahindra, India's leading utility vehicle manufacturer is now planning to expand its product line-up by developing a new MPV based on the Maxximo small trucks platform. The new MPV is being tested in Mahindra's recently inaugurated Mahindra Research Valley (MRV).

Mahindra currently sells the Xylo MPV and is expected to launch a smaller version of the Xylo this Diwali. If reports about this Maxximo based MPV are true than we can see a sturdier and more robust MPV that can be priced below the Xylo.

We can see a similarity with Mahindra's plans to its existing SUV line-up which includes the Bolero, Scorpio and XUV 500. The Bolero is the entry level SUV followed by the Scorpio and the XUV 500. However in the MPV segment Mahindra only has the Xylo and nothing else. The Maxximo based MPV could well be what the Bolero is among SUVs.

Reports say Mahindra has not set any time line to launch this Maxximo based MPV. There are plans to launch a passenger van based on the same platform too. The Maxximo MPV will join the long list of soon to be launched MPVs. Major carmakers are preparing to launch new MPVs responding to increased demand form customers.

Market leader Maruti Suzuki has launched its Ertiga MPV this week with a starting price of Rs.5.89 lakhs (ex showroom price Delhi). Nissan is set to launch its Evalia that was unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo while General Motors is preparing to launch its Chevrolet Enjoy.
