Mercedes Benz has unveiled the production version of the sporty compact A-Class hatchback at the Geneva International Motor Show 2012. The A-Class is expected to hit Indian roads by 2013, the concept car was earlier displayed at the Indian Auto Expo in January 2012.

The hot new A-Class will be the car maker's entry level model in India. However, the Mercedes Benz B-Class sports tourer hatchback is touted to enter the Indian market before the A-Class.

The A-Class will be a front wheel drive car made on the MFA (Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture) platform which is more of a conventional car-like design. The car will be available in both petrol and diesel versions.

With the A-Class entering the Indian market, the competitors for the luxury car would be the yet to be launched Audi A3 sedan and the BMW 1-series range of cars. The new luxury hatchback is expected to be tagged at a price around 20 lakh when it enters the Indian market.
