Tata Displays Cheap Electric Car eMO In Detroit

Tata Motors has gone on a new technological offensive by displaying a cheap yet efficient electric small car named as eMO at the ongoing Detroit Auto Show. The eMO is now in its prototype stage and has been developed by Tata Technologies which is based in the UK.

The Tata eMO is comparatively cheap electric car when compared to other electric cars. The eMO is one of the star attractions at Tata Motors' display area. Although there is some similarities between the Tata Nano and the eMO, Tata Motors has clarified the eMO is not the electric version of the Nano.

Warren Harris the president of Tata Technologies while speaking about the new electric car said: “ The eMO project symbolizes the coming of age of Indian automotive engineering. It is a tangible example of the capability of Tata Technologies to engineer a full vehicle -- a first for any India-based engineering services company."

The eMO prototype can carry four adults and its interiors have been designed with a focus on highlighting Tata Technologies' dedication towards environmental responsibility and sustainability. The team developing the eMO had set themselves the task of developing an electric car that would cost less than $20,000.

The resulting prototype is in fact cheaper than $20,000, weights about 900kg and is built on a steel frame that will adhere to tough crash test standards.
